Why does "Bleeding Heart" Dicentra never set seed?

It blooms itself repeatedly , but never is able to ?

how so?

Thanks for your answers!

Why does "Bleeding Heart" Dicentra never set seed?
the plant continues to bloom because it is in a constant state of sexual frustration. it's trying to become pollinated, trying to go to seed, but it is evidently not getting that fulfillment. i'm not familiar with the "king of hearts" variety, but i do know that the "luxuriant" is a hybrid - and it may not be able to be pollinated by other dicentra since it's been genetically tweaked.

All three of these websites indicate that Bleeding Heart can be propagated by seed.

I have a dicentra spectabilis. It is a beautiful shrub.
Reply:I don't know why your dicentra doesn't set seed, unless you have no bees or pollinators, because mine does, I have seedlings come up around mine every year. Perhaps your plant is a hybrid variety. Hybrids don't set seed, they are sterile

You are thinking of dicentra as a ground cover? If you live in an area where it freezes in the winter, it dies back to the ground. The dicentra spectabilis comes up in the spring, blooms, and dies back to the ground by the first of June, not to be seen again until the following spring.
