Bleeding? Here is a great web page http://www.nursewise.com/courses/chestub...

OR is it external at the suture line? are you seeing the drain tube in the chest?..it would be normal for some expelled blood from the chest tube to clear..that is a good thing.the area from within the chest cavity needs to get rid of the excess fluid if not that would stay in the system and create an uglier situtation..the amount of drainage is two to three days average. there should not be much 20-100cc's per HR after the second day..The fluid intake(like water) and etc..should be accounted for what comes out of the body..the nurses are accountable for the following of the amounts of intake and OUT..that in cludes the blood out-take as well.when the out-take seems not to slow down or stop(within a reasonable amount of time) There are many ways(tests) to assure there are no odd(anomalies) bleeding internal where it should not.

Rare to have continual bleeding.
