Are the best artists tortured souls, bleeding hearts, cynics and misunderstood genuises who are too?

complicated to express themselves through living a simple life, or guys who just go to art school? Or a combination of both? What is a tortured soul? Some people have said that I am the worst case of a tortured soul with J. Alfred Prufrock's complex that they have ever met. Are tortured souls just crybabies, as I have been often called, or is there more to it than that? Is anyone out there a tortured soul as well?

Reply:The best artists are people who create simply for the art of creation. Trying to spread a message or make a profit is NOT ART. Be an artist because you have a desire to create art, in any form, that expresses emotion or thought.
Reply:The best artists are the artists with actual talent. Not the fakies out there who can draw a line or make a box and paint it red and be like "THIS IS ART AND I AM A GENIUS!" Art is talent. Period. Whether you are tortured or sane. The frame of mind just affects the artist's work. Great things can come from a person whether expressions are crazed or not.
Reply:Great Art often comes from suffering. The beauty that pains the artist from the inside may be best expressed through the creation of some external symbol that the skill of the artist imbues with vision. One artist who was tortured by arthritic hands even though he continued to paint in spite of the pain said that the Suffering ends but the Beauty remains. Maybe that is why so many love songs are about the pain of lost relationships.
