2 teenagers stabbed in London and still the bleeding hearts say we shouldn't have stop and searches, what do u

think?

I have no objections to being stopped and searched and i dont think that anyone else who has nothing to hide would do either?

I agree that certain groups may be more likely to be stopped and think that everyone should be treat equally, however i think it's fair to think that youths in hoodies are more likely to be equipped that a little old lady.

I just think that everytime an idea is fielded you always get a bunch of lefties crying about things being against human rights!

What about our human right to walk down the street and not get stabbed?!

I think if stopping %26amp; searching everyone leads to one less crime then they can search whoever they want, whenever they want %26amp; as often as they want. The sooner they start it the better.
Reply:I think stop and search is an amazing an effective tool to combat crime. Statistics show constantly lower levels of crime when stop and search is used. The problems that liberals have with it is that 'ethnic minorities' are targeted! So what if they are?

The Police should target certain groups! Islamic fundamentalists are more likely to be Muslim, the groups most likely to be carrying are young men, so why shouldn't these groups be targeted? Get off your bleeding heart liberal fecking high horse and stop whingeing!

I am a white male and I have been stopped (yes, shocker for all you left wing nutjobs, it isn't just 'minorities' who get stopped!) a number of times.

Each time the police were courteous, explained that it was just a completely random stop and search and nothing to do with me personally, and were completely proffessional. I went away feeling a lot safer.
Reply:i agree with the stop and search, if you have nothing to hide it should not bother you.
Reply:I do think its a good idea in theory, but I know a few police officers and I don't really trust them to be fair... Plus, what would happen if they do find a knife? The officers would just give them a tap on the wrist and a pat on the head!
Reply:I think that people who are caught with illegal knives (which are useless other than as weapons) should have to pay 5x the current penalty in fines. This is the first deterrent. The second deterrent is to increase the penalties for knife assaults, as the existing laws are evidently not enough of one. The third deterrent is to give harsh sentences to repeat offenders.

Such people are not fit to walk the streets.

If all of that fails, then stop and search should be used.

From an American's point of view, England is not what it was 20 years ago. There is a thick cloud of crime and incivility that hovers over the country. Look up the word "yobs" in Google News and see for yourself.
Reply:I totally agree - I wouldnt mind being stop searched - especially by a nice ploiceman lol joking apart it ought to be national policy especuially entering into public places ie night clubs etc.

And yes, people do have human rights - we have the right to be protected from knife yielding/violent people - protection from these poeple should be our human right.

Moreso if the government arent going to clamp down on alcohol/drug consumption, Violent fiolms, parental control then we have a human right to continuous protection.
Reply:I never thought I'd say this, but I think that I agree with stop and search now.

As long as it's backed up with very heavy sentences for those who are caught.
Reply:Chacha, please forgive me I don't wish to offend, but in reality you are as likely to be stabbed as you are to be searched.

It may seem that stop and search is an answer, but the police record for 'deaths in custody' of young black men is not good.

In addition, the police haven't patrolled the streets on foot for almost a decade, they would have to develop procedures to retake the streets, and that would take time.

Also, consider that these street murderers are from particular communities and they nearly always target their own people, the police are unlikely to receive much support from those communities, they'll protect their own.

The only measure that will work is the army on the streets.......the government knows it, that's why there's so many cameras.
Reply:I agree with Tony Bineye. At the end of the day the conservatives got it right in trying to tackle the causes of crime rather than trying to establish superficial preventative measures. If government actually tried to get to the causes - poverty, abandoment etc etc then there wouldn't be a need for stop and searches. Why can't people see its just one legislation after the other that limits the individual freedom that the constitution guarantees?
Reply:Our civil liberties are being eroded remarkably fast, and we are allowing it to happen in the 'British' way, without protest.

However, the problem with knife-carrying scum-of-the-earth (hood)lums is getting so bad that if the Government doesn't do something, like stop-and-search, RIGHT NOW, it is going to get way out of control. Carrying knives has a snowball effect: Those kids carry knives, so we better carry them too.
Reply:Entirely agree. The only ones against it are the bleeding hearts and those they seek to protect.

My only gripe would be if I was continually stopped solely for being white middle English.
Reply:doesn`t bother me if i`m searched i have nothing to hide, obviosley the ones who object have!
Reply:stop and search is necessary in many areas where knife and gun crime are rife

it is a fact of life that many kids are being killed in these communities so it is just common sense to focus on these areas and the people who fit the profile of the victims and attackers .... who in most cases are young black men

i don't know why we have to pretend the truth is different to what it is just so that we do not appear racist ......
Reply:I have a 10mm Glock in my pocket now, and the odds of me being a victim of such an attack are very slim. You must overturn the ban on guns that allows criminals to rule the streets of England. An armed citizenry is the best deterrent to crime.

I'm an American. I am free...
Reply:I've seen in similar questions people going on about civil rights when it comes to searches but surely our civil right to walk down any street without worrying about whether or not we might make it to the end comes first.
Reply:When my son was a young man he said that he was sick of being stopped by the police because he was a skateboarder. I just said to him that most crime is committed by young men and if that is what it took to keep people safe, then he would just have to lump it. He was never in trouble and I can understand his feelings but because some are ruining the country, the rest must suffer. He is not an ethnic minority and at the time was a public school boy.
Reply:Are you willing to give up your freedom for security?

If so you will end up with neither.

Stop and search sounds good, but I don't think it is the best idea.
Reply:I would rather people were inconvenienced with stop and search if it saves any lives at all.

Papuman do you not realise how many kids are killed because people are frightened to tackle the problem of out of control kids carrying knives?

It is not the fault of society that many of these children come from homes where there is no discipline or respect for authority and in many many cases no father figure.

It is not societies fault that many of these knife carrying kids are members of gangs.

It is the fault of the children and their families.

Perhaps if some women thought about the responsibilities of motherhood before they decided to have a child with a man who has no intention of being part of that child's or any of the children he produces lives they might not have children so easily and might wait until they are mature enough to do a good job. It is societies fault that reckless production of children is now acceptable and in many communities the norm as we have funded this lifestyle.

It is unfortunate that we continue to pay for poor upbringing of these children with the lives of other kids.
Reply:When I used to walk to work many years ago, I was stopped by the police regularly. They would just step out of a doorway right in front of you, or pull up in a van and jump out. Where you going, where you been, what you got in your bag, where do you live. No appologies, no kow towing, no sorry sir. Just a 'Get on your way'. This could happen five out of six days. But do you know what, it never botherd me cause I was glad to know the police were out and about. It made me feel safer.
Reply:what about my human right to walk down the street and not be stopped every five minutes by some zealous cop
Reply:If you are black and are stopped and searched today by the police, you might not wake up to see tomorrow. I don't think this is a 'bleeding heart' statement though. Too many 'unexplained' deaths in police custody.
