How do I propogate a bleeding heart plant?

Do I take a cutting or does it have to be part of a root? If so, I have no idea how to do that and get it to root -- please explain the steps or point me to a good website. I am not looking to plant from seeds.

You can take cuttings. Dip them in root hormone and put them in a sandy soil or potting soil. Water well and keep moist for the next few weeks. Some of the leaves may fall off but, new leaves will grow from there. Mist during the hottest part of the day and keep the plant in shade until the roots have established themselves.
Reply:Last season the guy that mows my lawn, completely mowed down my bleeding heart bush.It was young, and he thought it was a weed I guess.Well, this year it has come back, which makes me think that if you just split it as you would a hosta plant, and be sure to keep the root ball in tact, that it will grow. Most perennials are pretty hardy. If you still arent sure,go to a nursery and ask.they are usually pretty willing to give advice.Good Luck.
Reply:You can divide the plant with a spade. The best time to do this is early in the season before the plant starts growing. Plant the divisions in soil that has had compost added and water the transplants thoroughly.
