How do I split a bleeding heart plant?

My neighbor has a plant like this; if I want a piece ... what should we do? It is in the ground now and flowered.

How do I split a bleeding heart plant?
Now while the plant is in flower is not a good time to divide it ,ideally you should wait until spring when the plant is starting to throw out shoots cut a section of the main plant of and divide up the young shoots or roots and plant them where they will not encounter any opposition from other plants.these shoots will take two years to mature so you will have to exercise Patience
Reply:I actually did this same thing last year! All I did was dig up some of the plant making sure I got some roots, but it in a bucket in my car and planted it in my garden! It grew wonderfully!

Bleeding heart plants are hearty, and transplant well.

Good luck!
Reply:I would look into a rooting solution or a gel. I've had about 50/50 luck with that. I would suggest going to your local home depot or lowes and seeing if they have some in bulbs, it would be less expensive then buying a grown plant, and depending on your area, it might bloom this season.
